Emergency First Aid Fundamentals
Would you know what to do if you were deep in the woods and a hunting partner took a stray round to the chest? Could you keep a loved one alive until the ambulance arrives if an attacker with a knife cut an artery?
Most people can handle everyday cuts and scrapes, and many have learned CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. Far fewer know what to do about a life-threatening injury or illness when EMS and the emergency room are minutes or more away.
In this course, you’ll learn how to assess a patient and how to handle major problems, including:
- Serious bleeding
- Chest injuries
- A compromised airway
- Spinal injuries
- Broken bones
You won’t be able to do everything an EMT or paramedic can. But in a life-threatening emergency, everyone on scene has the same job, which is to keep the patient alive until they get to the emergency room.
